A coffee, a garden center, and an idea to bring home

You can leave the house without needing a grand destination. Take a coffee to a local garden center and let yourself be curious. The point is to come home with one idea you want to try.

Go to notice

Give yourself an hour to wander. Look at the shape of leaves, the way stones are grouped, or how a planter holds color. You can take a few photographs or jot down three things that catch your eye. Browsing is enough; buying something is optional.

Bring one idea back

At home, make a quick sketch. It might be a corner with a few stones and grasses, a container garden, or a path you would like to build someday. Write down the smallest first step: measure the space, look up a plant, or collect a few reference images.

Try it your way

Go alone and follow your own pace, or go with someone and compare what each of you noticed. If the weather is poor, spend time in the indoor plant section and bring home a sketch instead of a purchase.

For regional growing advice, explore OSU Extension’s free gardening webinars. Their recorded sessions cover native plants, soil, pollinators, and other practical starting points.

I hope this finds you well,
